ROANOKE, VA. – There is a call to action in Roanoke after two separate shootings all involving teenagers.
One of them died, two others were taken to hospital. They both took place on Monday.
Bishop JL Jackson is a local pastor and is one of the many people who say something needs to change.
“It’s heartbreaking, I wish God we never have to go through this in our city, it’s heartbreaking when it’s an older person, when it’s an adult, when it’s a big- parent. It’s even more heartbreaking when it’s a kid who hasn’t even had the chance to live yet, ”Jackson said.
He shared a post on Facebook telling the community that they cannot blame the police when their children kill other children.
Jackson is a trusted figure in the community and said it would take a lot of work to reverse this trend.
“It won’t be just the parents, it’s not just the churches, it’s not all about the schools, it’s not all about the police, it’s not all about the court and the penal system. it’s up to all of us come together to find resolutions and solutions to find better ways for our children to grow up and live safely, ”Jackson said.
Police continue to search for suspects in Monday night’s shooting, while a 15-year-old has been charged with second degree murder for the afternoon shooting.
